Community-Police Relations Foundation

The Foundation has been able to identify the needs of our society and fulfill these needs by increasing interactions and collaboration between the community and law enforcement. In doing so, we have endorsed a new blueprint — community policing— for a better future.

The Foundation believes in a dual approach, supporting both our communities and law enforcement. We do not just mail in a check; we show up. This includes the active role of members who participate rather than observe. You will find our leadership, staff, and members in churches, sporting events, community festivals, and holiday celebrations engaged in dialogue and interaction with diverse community members to build relationships and trust and increase our cultural competencies.

Empowering Communities

Empowering local communities is one of the most essential steps toward building more robust and sustainable futures for ourselves and future generations. It is about recognizing the power within our communities and working together to harness it. Through education, mentorship, sports, and nutrition, we can create a culture of resilience and self-sufficiency that benefits everyone. Together, we will explore how to support and empower local communities to create a better future for all. We are passionate about nurturing meaningful relationships with diverse communities, historically underserved and at risk. Through initiatives informed by the communities and law enforcement, we empower people while forging a collaborative alliance from the youngest to the eldest.

Mental Health and Wellness

In collaboration with Boulder Crest Foundation, the CPR Foundation has launched a PTG (post-traumatic growth) mental wellness initiative to facilitate mental health programs for police officers and first responders, including nursing professionals. Services have been provided to over 6,000 police officers and first responders at 37 police departments in the last two and half years throughout Miami-Dade County. We have received incredible positive feedback about this life-saving program from officers, their family members, and department chiefs.

The program offered to first responders is called Struggle Well Training (two-day or five-day sessions). The objective is to enable participants to prepare, practice, and implement an individualized plan for personal growth by transforming struggle into strength, allowing law enforcement officers/first responders to be of continued service to themselves, their family, their work, and their community.

On October 2, 2023, The Miami-Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police announced the launch of the Regional First Responder Peer Support Team Program in partnership with the CPR Foundation and the Boulder Crest Foundation. This program provides peer-to-peer support opportunities and works to support Officers and their families who experience mental health events, empower them to engage with other police officers, and advocate for the importance of resources that enhance their health and safety. The program launched with 15 sworn officers trained to serve as Peer Support Team members.

Law enforcement faces pressures most of us are blissfully unaware of. Officers and their families deal with higher rates of depression, burnout, PTSD, anxiety, and suicidal ideation than most. Traditional mental health treatments often fall short, considering the unique, intense experiences these individuals face daily. Add the stigma often associated with seeking help, and you have a real problem. The CPR Foundation’s partnership with Boulder Crest Foundation and the Miami Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police provides a new approach, tailoring the mental health program to suit an officer's needs.

Officer Relief

The Foundation provides support and resources to officers and family members of the law enforcement community. The funds are to assist in the transition to recovery. Our goal is to lessen the immediate financial hardship and provide assistance due to the result of critical injury or natural disaster.

Throughout the year, donations are made to officers injured on the job, families of officers killed in the line of duty, and assistance for officers affected by natural disasters.

Human Trafficking

CPR Foundation collaborates with local community groups and private organizations to raise awareness and support the fight against human trafficking.

We meet with civilian groups that assist us in connecting and distributing human trafficking flyers to barber shops, salons, clothing and accessory stores, shelters, and more. These working groups provide updates and reinforce our mission to stop human trafficking in our community.

Animal Cruelty

The CPR Foundation’s commitment to supporting animal welfare includes support programs that confront criminal animal cruelty, increase funding to treat injuries and perform surgeries, and improve care for distressed animals, such as dogs, cats, rabbits, and horses.

Research shows a strong link between domestic violence and animal abuse. Studies have shown that more than 50% of female domestic violence survivors with pets say their abusers threatened, harmed, or even killed their animals. Studies also highlight that child who observe animal abuse or domestic violence are at greater risk of continuing the violence cycle as adults.
